Consumer Regulatory | Senior Associate – Legal Director | London | International Law Firm
There aren’t many consumer regulatory teams where you can join at Senior Associate level and have a genuinely clear route through to Directorship (with potential partnership thereafter) while working on some of the biggest names in the consumer and retail space.
This opportunity is with a leading international law firm that is looking to strengthen its consumer regulatory practice, led by a very highly regarded partner in the market (who you would work closely with).
The team advises household-name businesses across retail, FMCG, food, hospitality and wider consumer sectors, on regulatory issues that are rarely straightforward - and rarely stay still for long.
The work spans:
- Product safety and product recalls
- Advertising and marketing claims
- Product standards and labelling
- Cross-border regulatory issues
- Modern slavery
- Chemical regulation
- Advisory and contentious regulatory matters

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
It’s a fast-moving area, with UK and European regulation continually evolving, so this is a role for someone who enjoys being close to the detail while also understanding the commercial impact for clients.
Who are they looking for?
The sweet spot is a Senior Associate, but they’re open-minded on level.
That could mean:
- An experienced Senior Associate looking for a Legal Director opportunity now, or in the near future.
- An Associate around 4–5 PQE who is ready to step up to Senior Associate
- Someone from a broader commercial, regulatory, health & safety or product regulatory background, provided there is meaningful product/consumer safety experience.
The team would particularly suit someone coming from a recognised regulatory or consumer practice... However, they are much more interested in the substance of your experience than coming from a particular firm name.
You’ll work closely with the partners leading the practice, have genuine responsibility for matters and clients, and play a key role between the senior leadership and more junior lawyers in the team.

For someone joining at Legal Director level, there is a real platform to build a business case for partnership.
There is a very strong internal promotion culture, with clear examples of people progressing from Senior Associate to Director and then into partnership in very reasonable timeframes.
And perhaps most importantly, this is a team that genuinely seems to enjoy working together.
A modern, characterful office, a collaborative environment and a practice that is investing in its next stage of growth.
If you’re a consumer/product regulatory lawyer and the prospect of building your profile within a recognised specialist practice appeals, I’d be very happy to have a confidential conversation.
