The Opportunity
We are looking for a bright and enthusiastic homebased UK qualified lawyer, or similarly qualified and/or experienced contract management professional, who is proficient in drafting and negotiating contracts in the IT sector to work with the business and a small team of lawyers supporting Magellan’s business in the UK.
The legal team is small and supports all legal issues that face a company. Therefore there are opportunities to be involved in supporting many of the corporate and compliance requirements of the business, to work on data protection issues, to support the procurement function and be involved in managing any disputes that might arise.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Drafting and negotiating complex IT and commercial contracts.
- Supporting bids, tenders, and public procurement activities.
- Advising on legal and commercial risks.
- Providing legal support for rail ticketing and payment/card solution businesses.
- Supporting data protection, intellectual property, procurement, and compliance matters.
- Managing legal issues throughout the contract lifecycle.
- Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and acting as a business partner.
- Assisting with disputes, corporate governance, and wider legal matters as required.

Who are we looking for
- UK Qualified lawyer with circa 8 years PQE or a similarly qualified and/or experienced professional
- Around 5 years experience of drafting and negotiating contracts in the IT sector
- In-house experience or with a legal firm within the IT sector
- Ideally experienced in major public procurements
- Good understanding of intellectual property law and data protection law
- Knowledge of company secretarial matters ideal but not essential
- Ability and enthusiasm to learn and understand complicated and dynamic business models and products in the IT industry and to translate them into plain English contracts
- Precise drafting with attention to detail
- Experience in dealing with difficult negotiations, retaining commercial pragmatism while balancing risks and preserving relationships
- Positive can do attitude with a flexible outlook and the ability to adapt to change and respond to competing deadlines
- A team player with the ability to build strong relationships within the business at all levels
- Comfortable working on a remote basis but willing to travel to meetings as required
