We are recruiting for Senior Contract Manager to join our Converters work package team of our Eastern Green Link 3 (EGL3) project. This role offers hybrid working with occasional travel required to Glasgow. We’re happy to discuss flexible working arrangements to make this role work for you.

Job Purpose

Eastern Green Link 3 (EGL3) is a major multi-billion-pound offshore transmission project being developed by National Grid, in joint venture with SSEN Transmission, to support the UK’s transition to increased renewable energy generation as identified in the ESO’s Pathway to 2030 Holistic Network Design.

In this role you will report to the Senior Commercial Manager from line management perspective and to the Work Pack Commercial Lead from functional perspective. You will be required to provide commercial leadership by ensuring appropriate management of this major £1bn Converter EPC contract and supporting the Work Pack Delivery Lead with key commercial decisions. Furthermore, you will contribute towards procuring and managing any non-EPC contracts associated with the Converters work package.

Being part of SI’s Offshore Commercial department you will work closely with commercial managers across the function on portfolio wide topics and ensure lessons are shared in a timely and appropriate manner. You will collaborate closely with SI Commercial Excellence team to understand the commercial governance landscape as well as the Nationalgrid project gates and ensure that the Converters Work Package complies with these requirements. Working within a matrix organisation, you will effectively collaborate within the EGL3 project as well as with other related projects to share ensure process consistency, manage interfaces and lessons learned.

What You'll Do

Contract Management & Administration

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Converters EPC contract, its components, and the associated procurement process.
  • Administer the contract using FASTDRAFT and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), including the appropriate allocation of tasks to Contract Managers.
  • Ensure all payments are administered in accordance with the contractual payment mechanism.
  • Collaborate with project management and technical teams to evaluate variations and, where required, draft contractual amendments in liaison with the project's legal advisors.
  • Assess current and future risks, developing cost models to support business decisions and mitigation strategies.
  • Engage with other Work Package teams to identify, manage, and mitigate interface risks.

Commercial Management & Performance

  • Monitor the contractor's commercial performance, ensuring issues are identified and addressed promptly in line with contractual obligations.
  • Support monthly budget reporting across both JV partner organisations.
  • Review, assess, and support the resolution of contractual claims, contributing to timely and effective negotiations and settlements.
  • Identify key Commercial Moments in line with the SI Commercial Decision-Making Framework and lead associated readiness activities.
  • Initiate, prepare, and deliver Commercial Readiness Reviews at critical decision points.
  • Provide commercial input to support procurement activities and project governance requirements.
  • Monitor and drive performance against SI commercial KPIs, taking proactive steps to improve outcomes.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build strong cross-functional relationships (e.g. programme, project management, procurement, and supplier teams) to proactively identify and manage risks with commercial implications.
  • Liaise with procurement and finance stakeholders to ensure the timely and appropriate drawdown of funds into the joint venture.
  • Support the Work Package Commercial Lead in developing the commercial team in line with project requirements.

Systems, Reporting & Governance

  • Act as a key user of the FASTDRAFT contract management system, promoting its effective adoption across the Converters Work Package.
  • Manage and report contract changes through the project's change management system.
  • Support financial processes, including Value of Work Done (VOWD) and cash flow reporting, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
  • Utilise relevant project systems, tools, and dashboards to manage change, risk, document control, and health & safety compliance.
  • Support both joint ventures partners through their respective governance processes and stage gates.

About You

  • Proven experience in contract management on large-scale or complex construction projects.
  • Strong commercial and contractual expertise across multiple contract forms, including FIDIC Silver Book, NEC4 (Options A, C, and E), and bespoke contract forms.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively within complex stakeholder environments, including joint ventures and interfacing contracts.
  • Proven experience in claims management, risk management, procurement, and commercial negotiations.
  • A relevant degree (e.g. Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Construction Law, Business Administration, Finance, or CIPS) or significant equivalent experience.
  • Experience within regulated and/or infrastructure environments would be advantageous. Applications are welcomed from professionals with client-side, contractor, or consultancy backgrounds.
