Senior Contracts Lawyer | Southend-on-Sea

£55,224 - £60,905 | Hybrid | 2 days per week in the office

An opportunity for an experienced local government lawyer to take on a varied contracts and procurement caseload, advising on matters ranging from day-to-day commercial work through to complex, high-profile and politically sensitive issues.

Working within the legal team and reporting to the Principal Lawyer, you will have a good degree of autonomy and will be expected to provide clear, pragmatic legal advice across a broad range of contracts and procurement matters.

Role Responsibilities

You will:

  • Manage your own varied caseload of contracts and procurement matters
  • Provide specialist legal advice to officers and stakeholders
  • Advise on commercial and construction contracts, including JCT and NEC
  • Deal with routine complex legal cases alongside higher-profile and politically sensitive matters
  • Work independently under the direction of the Principal Lawyer
  • Operate confidently within a political environment and understand the particular considerations involved in local government

About You

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives
  • A current Practising Certificate with the relevant professional body
  • Strong experience across contracts and procurement, ideally including JCT and NEC

This would suit a lawyer who enjoys having a varied caseload, wants genuine responsibility for their own work and is comfortable advising on matters where the legal and political considerations can sometimes be equally important.
