Senior ABB 800xA Engineer – Control System Upgrade Project
Location: Aberdeen
Hybrid – Office attendance required for a minimum of two weeks in every four-week period.
Rate: £50–£60 per hour, dependent on experience.
Duration: 12 month contract
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and modify ABB 800xA control system applications.
- Develop and maintain control strategies using Function Designer and Structured Text.
- Configure and support AC800M controllers.
- Perform database engineering and bulk configuration using Bulk Data Manager.
- Support control system upgrades, migrations and system enhancements.
- Produce and review functional design specifications and technical documentation.
- Carry out Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and commissioning activities where required.
- Diagnose and resolve software, hardware and communications issues.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, process engineers and commissioning teams to deliver project milestones.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with company standards, quality procedures and applicable safety regulations.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 10 years' experience working with ABB Distributed Control Systems.
- Extensive experience with ABB 800xA.
- Strong knowledge of AC800M controllers.
- Proficient in Function Designer programming.
- Experience programming using Structured Text.
- Experience using Bulk Data Manager.
- Ability to work independently and provide technical leadership within a project team.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience with MOD300 systems.
- Experience with AC450 controllers.
- Knowledge of ABB Safeguard safety systems.
- Previous experience delivering ABB controller upgrade and migration projects.
- Experience working in regulated process industries such as energy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, water or oil & gas.
