Senior Control Engineer - Electrification & Automation

Location: Hebburn

At Siemens Smart Infrastructure, we're helping to transform the UK's electricity network to meet the demands of a more sustainable, digitised future. As a Senior Control Engineer based in Hebburn, you'll play a leading role in delivering advanced control and automation solutions that support some of the UK's most critical energy infrastructure projects.

Working with transmission and distribution network operators, renewable energy developers and major industrial customers, you'll help design and deliver the systems that enable a smarter, more resilient and lower-carbon power network.

What you'll be doing:

Our Electrification & Automation business delivers advanced control, SCADA and automation solutions for major electricity infrastructure projects across the UK. From grid modernisation and digital substations to renewable energy integration, you'll help shape the future of a smarter, more sustainable power network.

As our Senior Control Engineer, you will:

  • Lead the design and delivery of control and automation solutions for electrical transmission and distribution projects.
  • Provide technical leadership across projects, supporting and mentoring engineers within the team.
  • Develop and review Functional Design Specifications and detailed system designs.
  • Configure and integrate SCADA, automation and communication systems.
  • Lead customer Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities.
  • Ensure technical compliance with customer specifications, industry standards and project requirements.
  • Support bid and proposal activities by providing technical expertise during the pre-sales phase.
  • Act as the technical focal point for project stakeholders, customers and internal delivery teams.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

What skills and experience you will bring to the role:

  • Experience in control systems, automation, SCADA or power systems engineering.
  • A minimum qualification of HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering and/or experience in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution Industry.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a similar role involving developing medium to large scale SCADA systems, control systems, automation systems and communication infrastructure.
  • Good understanding of the Circuit Diagrams / Wiring Diagrams and General Arrangement drawings on control and protection systems.
  • Desire to technically lead on allocated projects and develop engineers for the expanding team.

Please note the successful candidate will be required to obtain UK Government Security Check (SC) clearance.
