Job Description Summary
As a Senior Control & Protection Application Engineer, you will serve as a technical authority bridging our Product and Engineering teams. As part of a dynamic team of engineers, you will oversee the full lifecycle of HVDC Control & Protection systems. You will be instrumental in driving engineering excellence, mentoring global talent, and ensuring the standardization of design practices across product development.
Job Description
As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for overall requirements, design, implementation, and testing of HVDC Control and Protection application software. You will also play a key part in technically developing less experienced members of the team.
Responsibilities:
- Work as part of an expert team, giving ample opportunity for learning design and development skills highly relevant for working with any control and protection system; in particular, power electronics systems and grid technology.
- Execute the analysis, simulation, test, and integration required to define, and support assigned components, modules, or systems that meet business standards.
- Apply prior experience and on-the-job training to solve problems. Propose solutions utilizing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline, analytical thinking, and technical experience in solving problems.
- Coach and mentor team members with less experience, lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Develop skills within the team and manage performance.
- Lead and active participation in continuous improvement activities.
- Responsible for operational planning/execution within a technical discipline.

Qualifications / Essential Requirements:
- Engineering degree in Computer Science or power systems and power electronics subjects or proven equivalent knowledge and experience in HVDC business.
- Lead design and development of event and rate-driven application software for control and protection systems.
- Competent on functional characteristics of power systems and interactions between AC and HVDC systems.
- Knowledge of PSCAD and competent using MATLAB-SIMULINK simulation tools.
- Promote Agile Software development practices within the team.
- Lead team members on Git, Jira, and Confluence for version control, task/defect management, and documentation.
- Strong written/verbal communication skills and can-do attitude.

Desired Characteristics:
- Process improvement or RCA experience or certification.
- Knowledge of HVDC Control, Protection, and Sequencing strategy.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical standards such as IEC 61850, IEC 62351.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to interpret and work with HVDC System and plant modeling using transient tools like PSCAD, RSCAD, etc., including undertaking Dynamic Performance Studies and Protection coordination.
