About us
We are a small engineering consultancy in Edinburgh, with a mix of software and electrical/electronic engineers. We work on a variety of projects involving renewable energy devices and other green technology.
We design and build systems using industrial off-the-shelf equipment, including low voltage variable frequency drives and power converters, PLCs, communications and networking equipment and servers. Our systems integrate with a wide range of devices such as novel electric and hydraulic-electric hybrid power generators, small consumer wind turbines, and subsea equipment. We design reliable networks for deployments where failure means dispatching a repair ship rather than opening a cabinet, and run cloud servers for centralised control, data logging and visualisation.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced engineer who enjoys wearing many hats and working across varied technologies, and who thrives when given responsibility and autonomy. As part of a small team, you will work directly with clients and suppliers, manage your own tasks and priorities, and take on a mix of design, specification, and hands-on implementation.
You will work on multiple projects at once. On some, you will own the entire project from initial client discussions to on-site commissioning. On others, you will join a project in progress and will be expected to become productive quickly. You will regularly be asked to learn unfamiliar technologies.
We work with AI on a daily basis, balancing the productivity gains of AI-built tooling and scripts with the philosophy that an industrial codebase must be simple, reliable, and thoroughly understood by its human builders.
Requirements
- At least five yearsโ professional software development experience, including:
- Significant experience with at least one programming language
- Working directly with clients or with multiple internal teams
- End-to-end system design and operation: requirements gathering, technology selection, architecture, delivery planning, development best practices, testing, deployment, documentation, and ongoing maintenance
- Strong communication skills: writing proposals and reports, collaborating with colleagues, explaining decisions to stakeholders. Experience working with engineers in other disciplines (e.g. electrical, mechanical) is a plus.
- A track record of self-directed learning
- Education: RQF level 3/SCQF level 6 or above โ e.g. A-levels or Highers.
- Fluency in both spoken and written English.

Iโm in my final year doing Economics and I donโt know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer โ it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) donโt need a masters. Letโs look at the ones youโd be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet โ that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
