Senior Controls Engineer

We’re looking for a Senior Controls Engineer to take technical ownership of advanced control algorithms for high-performance electromechanical systems for a UK defence start-up.

The initial focus will be motor control and Field-Oriented Control (FOC), working closely with embedded software and electronic hardware engineers to develop production-ready control algorithms from first principles. Over time, the scope will broaden into more complex servo, motion, and multi-axis control applications.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Significant experience developing control systems for physical/electromechanical systems
  • Strong practical Field-Oriented Control (FOC) experience
  • First-principles plant modelling and control system design
  • MATLAB/Simulink and Model-Based Design
  • Experience developing models suitable for automatic code generation
  • System identification and parameter estimation using real test data
  • Experience taking control algorithms through to production or qualified prototype
  • Strong hands-on testing, instrumentation, and control system debugging
  • Ability to work closely with embedded firmware and electronic hardware teams
  • SC Eligibility (Dual British & NATO nationalities considered)

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
