Senior Controls Engineer – Motor Control & Autonomous Systems
We're working with a fast-growing UK engineering business developing sovereign technology for the autonomous systems market.
They're now looking for a Senior Controls Engineer to take ownership of the algorithms behind those products.
The Opportunity
The immediate challenge is Field-Oriented Control (FOC) – taking existing supplier-dependent motor control and rebuilding it as genuinely in-house capability.
But that's only the starting point.
From there, you'll take ownership of increasingly complex control problems:
- Motor Control
- Servo Control
- Stabilisation
- Flight Control
- Multi-Axis Systems
You'll have the opportunity to put your name to the control architecture from an early stage, working closely with firmware, electronics, and test engineers as products move from prototype towards production.

What You'll Be Working On
- Field-Oriented Control (FOC)
- BLDC / PMSM motor control
- Servo & motion control
- Position, velocity, and current loops
- Plant modelling & system identification
- MATLAB / Simulink
- Model-based design
- Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL)
- Sensorless control & observers
- Stabilisation and multi-axis control
- Digital twin development
What We're Looking For
You'll need strong, practical experience developing control systems for physical hardware, with algorithms you've designed making it into a real product or qualified prototype.
We're particularly interested in experience with:
- Field-Oriented Control in practice
- First-principles plant modelling
- MATLAB & Simulink
- Model-based control development
- System / parameter identification from test data
- Hands-on testing and validation

Experience with servo systems, robotics, motorsport, electric drives, gimbals, aerospace, UAVs, or flight control would be particularly relevant.
