Senior Controls Engineer / Control Software Engineer
Compensation: up to £65,000 (negotiable depending on experience) plus benefits
Location: East Midlands - Commutable from Nottingham, Leicester, and Coventry

Our Leicester-based client has nearly 40 years of experience in manufacturing bespoke automation and robotic systems for various industrial applications. They are recognized as one of the leading automation system solution providers in the UK. Due to their ongoing success and strategic growth plans, they are seeking to hire an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Controls Engineer to join their professional team and deliver machine control system solutions for automated machinery projects.
Role Responsibilities
As a Senior Controls Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Writing and developing software, PLC, and HMI coding for various automation projects.
- Designing electrical systems and creating machine control system solutions for special-purpose automated machinery projects.
- Delivering control and safety systems that comply with the machinery directive and applicable standards.
- Designing electrical systems, selecting components, and generating detailed circuit diagrams.
- Integrating various robots, including SCARA, Delta, and 6-axis robots.
- Liaising extensively with customers, suppliers, and team members, requiring effective communication skills at all levels.
- Working both autonomously and as part of a team dedicated to delivering projects within budgetary and timescale constraints.

Additionally, you will:
- Follow projects through from design, development, and commissioning stages on machine control and safety systems.
- Create associated electrical documentation, including circuit diagrams, cable schedules, installation documents, BOMs, and bills of materials.
- Ensure that machine electrical systems and safety systems comply with relevant European and international safety standards.
- Select and procure all necessary components correctly.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should have:

- At least 4 years of experience in software design and PLC coding, with particular experience working with Omron, Siemens, and Allen Bradley equipment.
- Comprehensive skills and experience in electrical design for machine automation using ePlan.
- Knowledge and understanding of various national and international electrical standards for machine design and machine safety systems and requirements to CE mark machine systems.
- A degree-level qualification or equivalent in electrical/electronic engineering or a closely related control system discipline.
- A flexible approach to traveling to customer sites across the UK if required.
