About the Role
We exclusively represent a globally renowned material handling manufacturer recognised as one of, if not the, global leader in their field.
They manufacture turn-key solutions in several industries; we are representing their EMEA baggage handling arm of the business, which is enjoying a period of growth and therefore requires specialist engineering support.
They seek an experienced controls engineer with experience working with WMS or SAC systems to technically supervise Controls Engineers in the delivery of solutions, functionally reporting into a Design Manager or Project Manager during project delivery. You will occasionally be expected to undertake the roles of Design Manager on projects, depending on size and complexity.
Required Skillset
- Experience with the design, commissioning & troubleshooting of sortation systems within an airport or warehouse environment.
- Experienced integrating into warehouse management systems/sort allocation computers.
- Engineering degree or equivalent engineering qualification – or lesser qualification but with equivalent experience that can be assessed by an external body (e.g. IET).
- Good electrical knowledge and experience.
- Extensive PLC hardware & software experience; Siemens PLCs is ideal but will also consider Allen Bradley, Schneider etc.
- Excellent ability to read drawings and software to interpret and troubleshoot designs.
- Good knowledge of SCADA systems and other high-level control interfaces (e.g. SAC, Sorters, RFID, Scanners).
- Understanding of current CDM regulations.
- Good Baggage Systems, Material Handling Systems or Intra Logistics experience.
- Excellent planning and organisation skills.

- Responsible for the collation of all information for design work including: resource, estimates, phasing plans, schedules, offer specification, client briefs, user requirement specs, compliance matrices, drawings, existing system performance data, information from relevant previous works and regional applicable standards.
- Identify items deviating from standard.
- Carry out design risk assessments.
- Assess system solutions for performance and compliance to legislation, company standards and customer requirements.
- Drive teams to deliver consistently high quality solutions.
- Preparation/completion/production of: validation review forms, project specific PMDR, installation verification specifications with relevant EIVs.
- Develop work breakdown structure.
- Organisation and management of formal design reviews.
- Regular liaison with Design Managers, Project Managers, Project Engineering Manager and Regional Project Director.
- Timely/accurate management of engineering requirements/tracking.
- Compliance with departmental procedures.
- Value engineer/assess functionality of solutions.
- Take part in and occasionally lead design reviews.
