Senior Controls Engineer / Control Software Engineer

Salary: up to £65,000 depending on experience plus benefits

Location: East Midlands - Commutable from Nottingham, Leicester, and Coventry


About the Company

Our client, based in Leicester, has nearly 40 years of experience in manufacturing bespoke automation and robotic systems for various industrial applications. They are recognized as one of the leading automation system solution providers in the UK. Due to their ongoing success and strategic growth plans, they are now looking to hire an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Controls Engineer to join their professional team and deliver machine control system solutions for a range of automated machinery projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Software Development: Writing and developing software, PLC, and HMI coding for various automation projects.
  • Electrical Design: Creating machine control system solutions for special purpose automated machinery projects.
  • Compliance: Delivering control and safety systems that comply with machinery directive requirements and applicable standards.
  • Electrical System Design: Selecting components and generating detailed circuit diagrams.
  • Integration: Integrating various robots including SCARA, Delta, and 6-axis robots.
  • Communication: Liaising extensively with customers, suppliers, and team members.
  • Documentation: Creating associated electrical documentation including circuit diagrams, cable schedules, installation documents, BOMs, and bills of materials.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensuring machine electrical systems and safety systems comply with relevant European and international safety standards.
  • Procurement: Correctly selecting and procuring necessary components.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in software design and PLC coding.
  • Experience with Omron, Siemens, and Allen Bradley equipment is highly advantageous.
  • Comprehensive skills and experience in electrical design for machine automation using ePlan.
  • Knowledge and understanding of national and international electrical standards for machine design and safety systems.
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent in electrical/electronic engineering or a closely related control system discipline.
  • Flexible approach to travel to customer sites across the UK if required.
