Senior Cost Manager - Hotels & Hospitality

Tempest Jones is supporting a leading international property and construction consultancy with the appointment of a Senior Cost Manager into its growing hotels and hospitality team.
This is an opportunity for someone with credible hotel project experience who wants to turn that experience into a genuine specialism.
You will work on distinctive hotel developments across the UK and Europe, ranging from projects for major international brands, including Hilton, through to exceptional luxury and super prime schemes.
One recent commission involved approximately £30 million of fit out expenditure alone and formed part of one of only 5 hotels of its kind globally.
The attraction is not simply the quality of the projects. You will work with clients from the earliest stages, helping shape their ideas, test the commercial implications of design decisions and develop hotels that are operationally effective, financially viable and memorable for the people who use them.
The Opportunity
You do not need to have spent your entire career working exclusively in hotels. What matters is that you have meaningful experience within the sector, understand the particular challenges involved and want to make hotels and hospitality a much bigger part of your career.
You will join an established team with a strong client base and a growing pipeline of projects across the UK and Europe. The work will cover the full project lifecycle, from early feasibility and cost planning through procurement, construction and final account.
A key part of the role will be helping hotel owners, operators and investors understand how design, specification and operational decisions affect cost, programme and commercial viability.

Career Development
The opportunity is to progress from someone with good hotel experience into a recognised adviser within the sector.
Initially, you will focus on delivering projects, developing your knowledge and building trusted relationships with existing clients. As your credibility grows, you will take greater ownership of key accounts, help generate repeat work and progress towards Associate level.
Rather than remaining a generalist across multiple sectors, this role gives you the platform, project pipeline and client exposure to build a clear professional identity around hotels and hospitality.
Over time, this could develop into a wider client and sector leadership position across the UK and Europe.
About You
You may already be operating at Senior Cost Manager level or be a strong Cost Manager ready to take the next step.
You will have a background in cost management or quantity surveying, gained within a consultancy, contractor or client side environment.
You should have worked on hotel or hospitality projects and have enough sector exposure to understand the demands of refurbishment, fit out, redevelopment, cut and carve or new build schemes.
You will also need experience across some or all of the project lifecycle, including cost planning, preconstruction, procurement and post contract delivery.
The role is highly client facing, so you should be comfortable advising senior stakeholders, explaining commercial issues clearly and challenging decisions where appropriate.

You do not need to arrive as the finished hotels expert. However, you should have a genuine interest in the sector and the ambition to develop deeper expertise over time.
Chartered status would be beneficial, although those working towards chartership will also be considered.
Location and Travel
The hotels team and its leadership are based in Manchester, so Manchester and the wider North West are the preferred locations.
However, the business recognises that strong hotel experience exists across the market and is open to considering candidates based elsewhere in the UK, including Yorkshire and London.
The role will include travel to clients and projects across Europe. This will be on a visit basis for meetings, project reviews and key delivery stages, rather than involving long term site attendance or extended periods working away.
You will gain international project exposure without having to build your life around constant travel.
