We have an opportunity for a Senior Cost Manager to join our Bristol cost management team. You will become part of a collaborative, ambitious, and well-established team, delivering projects across Bristol, the south west, and, where appropriate, our wider national business.
The role offers the opportunity to lead on a broad mix of projects, contribute to client development, and support the growth of our people. You will manage commissions from inception to completion, working closely with clients, design teams, and contractors to provide clear, commercially robust cost advice.
Our work includes projects typically ranging from £1m to over £600m across sectors such as commercial, resident build-to-rent, later living, education, health, defence, manufacturing, and public sector development.
What You Need to Do to Be Effective in This Role
- Lead all aspects of cost management from inception to completion, taking responsibility for quality, accuracy, and commercial outcomes.
- Manage large-scale and/or multiple projects for key clients, balancing programme, cost, risk, and stakeholder requirements.
- Produce feasibility studies, order of cost estimates, detailed cost plans, and benchmarking advice.
- Evaluate building designs and alternative proposals to help clients maintain budget control.
- Advise clients on procurement strategy, contract arrangements, tendering routes, and market engagement.
- Prepare and issue tender documents, manage tender processes, review returns, and prepare clear tender reports and recommendations.
- Provide robust post-contract cost control, including valuations, payment recommendations, change control, reporting, and final account negotiation.
- Advise on contractual matters and procedures, with particular emphasis on JCT and NEC forms where relevant.
- Attend client, design team, and progress meetings, providing concise financial reporting and clear commercial advice.
- Support business planning, repeat business, client development, and the conversion of new opportunities.
- Maintain the highest standards of professional competence, quality assurance, and ethical practice.
- Cost planning at various RIBA stages, including preliminary estimates, elemental cost plans, and detailed design stage cost advice.
- Preparation of procurement reports and advice on single-stage, two-stage, negotiated, and framework routes.
- Monitor design change, measuring and valuing variations, and advising on budget impact.
- Prepare clear cost reports, risk registers, cash flow updates, and change control summaries for clients.
- Negotiate and agree final accounts with contractors and supply chain partners.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
