Senior Counsel, Legal – AI Governance, Data Privacy, & Cybersecurity
As the Senior Counsel, Legal – AI Governance, Data Privacy, & Cybersecurity, you will serve as the legal lead and manage the legal side of these programs for a global company operating in multiple jurisdictions. In this role, you will report to the Vice President, Legal – Litigation & Compliance.
AI Governance
- You will maintain a global AI Governance program and advise on AI-specific laws (such as the EU AI Act) as well as AI Governance generally, providing legal and business advice that is risk-conscious while encouraging responsible AI development and use.
- You will coordinate a cross-functional team that includes attorneys and cyber risk professionals and maintain an internal website resource that provides guidance and updates.
Data Privacy
- You will maintain a global Data Privacy program and advise on data privacy laws (including the GDPR, UK Data Protection Act 2018/UK GDPR, and laws in other jurisdictions such as the US, Saudi Arabia, China, and California).
- You will provide advice on contracts with vendors and customers, and you will lead the response to data subject requests, coordinating with Human Resources professionals, management, and other attorneys.

Cybersecurity
- You will coordinate with the Chief Information Security Office’s team to address legal cybersecurity risk.
- You will also assist with analysis of data events to determine whether any personal data breach or non-personal data breach reporting requirements, either statutory or contractual, are implicated, working together with other attorneys and stakeholders.
Insider Threat
- You will assist in assessing and coordinating responses to potential insider threats and managing the company’s global insider threat program, working with other attorneys, management, and insider threat support professionals from the IT team.
Required Qualifications:
- Law degree and admission to practice in the UK or an EU member state
- A relevant number of years PQE
- Comprehensive expertise in the AI, data privacy and cybersecurity laws of many jurisdictions
- Strong grasp of ISO 27701 or similar data privacy frameworks and working knowledge of adjacent frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001)
- Strong change management skills, including the ability to influence senior leaders across functions and countries and to design and implement efficient, sustainable processes and tools
- Ability to communicate key issues in simple, succinct ways and to pivot and respond to stakeholders’ questions and challenges
- Ability to raise the understanding of and attention to data privacy throughout large global organizations
- Track record of increasing your effectiveness and productivity through using approved AI systems for work
- Managing outside counsel to deliver value
Additional Relevant Experience
- The ideal candidate will also have a strong grasp of (1) AI laws, including the EU AI Act, and AI governance, and/or (2) information governance, including data mapping and record retention.
- Familiarity with AI-specific laws, AI-related laws, Data Privacy laws, and Cybersecurity laws
- Experience advising clients on business and legal risk in a risk-conscious but business-focused approach
- Motivation and initiative in researching and distilling new laws and laws from various jurisdictions into sound legal and business advice
- Sound judgment and confidence addressing sensitive insider threat situations
- Patience and understanding of cultural differences in a global business environment

Preferred Qualifications:
- CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPP/A, and CIPM certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals
- AI Governance Professional (AIGP) certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals
- Experience with internal investigations, employment law, IP law or litigation
