We're looking for a Senior Credit Controller who can take ownership of complex collections, support debt reduction across a high-volume customer portfolio, and build strong relationships with both clients and internal stakeholders. As our finance function continues to evolve, this role goes beyond traditional credit control. You'll play a key role in process improvement, automation initiatives, reporting, and stakeholder management, helping us drive efficiency while maintaining excellent customer outcomes.
The Role
This role is 4 days in the office and 1 day WFA. You'll play a key role within our Credit Control team, supporting the Credit Control Supervisor while taking ownership of complex debt management activities across a multi-site customer portfolio. This is a hands-on role that combines collections, cash allocation oversight, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement. The role is about more than chasing debt. You'll be:
- Managing complex collections and debt escalations across a high-volume customer portfolio
- Supporting cash allocation activities and ensuring accounts are accurately reconciled
- Building strong relationships with Operations, Finance, Billing, Treasury, and external clients
- Preparing key reporting and helping drive insight across the Credit Control function
- Championing automation and process improvement initiatives
- Mentoring junior team members and sharing best practice across the team
- Supporting wider finance transformation projects and new ways of working
Key Responsibilities
Credit Control & Debt Management
- Proactively manage overdue accounts and drive debt recovery across your portfolio
- Work closely with the Credit Control Supervisor on escalated and complex cases
- Arrange and monitor payment plans while balancing customer relationships with cash recovery
- Act as a key point of contact for internal and external queries relating to outstanding debt
- Support collection activities while maintaining a strong commercial focus

Cash Allocation & Reporting
- Oversee daily bank checks and support accurate cash allocation
- Investigate and resolve unallocated payments in partnership with Treasury
- Prepare and maintain monthly management agreement reports and credit balance reporting
- Support reporting, analysis, and performance tracking across the Credit Control function
- Ensure data accuracy and provide insight into emerging risks and trends
Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships with colleagues across Operations, Finance, Billing, Treasury, and Sales
- Work collaboratively with teams across the business to resolve customer account issues
- Provide regular updates on debt performance, payment issues, and escalations
- Deliver a professional and customer-focused approach when handling sensitive situations
Process Improvement & Transformation
- Support finance transformation initiatives and continuous improvement projects
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and efficiencies
- Champion automation across Credit Control activities, including dunning processes
- Maintain process documentation and help embed best practice across the team
- Work with stakeholders to improve data quality and reporting accuracy
Team Support & Development
- Mentor and support junior Credit Controllers
- Share knowledge and help develop team capability
- Conduct regular knowledge sharing and provide support where required
- Provide cover and support for senior members of the team when needed
Month-End & Ad Hoc Support
- Assist with month-end close activities
- Support business rates processes and wider finance activities
- Contribute to projects and ad hoc initiatives across the finance function as required

Requirements
What We're Looking For
- Previous Credit Control experience within a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Experience dealing with complex collections, escalations, and customer accounts
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Good understanding of cash allocation, reconciliations, and reporting
- Strong Excel skills, with ERP experience advantageous
- Experience identifying and implementing process improvements
- A commercial mindset with the ability to balance customer relationships and risk management
- Experience within a multi-site business would be beneficial
- Exposure to finance transformation, automation, or continuous improvement initiatives would be advantageous
