Job Description:

Job Title: Senior Credit Risk Officer

Location: London

Corporate Title: Vice President

The role entails providing expert credit analysis and comprehensive risk management oversight for hedge fund clients. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting detailed counterparty due diligence
  • Assessing investment strategies and risk management frameworks
  • Determining risk appetite
  • Establishing appropriate credit, financing, and derivatives limits
  • Assigning and approving internal credit ratings
  • Reviewing trading and financing transactions
  • Assessing the adequacy of collateral and legal protections

The Credit Officer will be responsible for managing a portfolio of hedge fund counterparties across a broad range of investment strategies and products, including derivatives, financing transactions, and securities financing activities.

Your key responsibilities

  • Undertake initial credit due diligence for new hedge fund relationships, conducting meetings with portfolio managers, chief investment officers, chief risk officers, chief operating officers, chief financial officers, and investor relations personnel to assess investment strategy, risk management frameworks, operational infrastructure, valuation controls, liquidity management practices, and investor composition.
  • Perform comprehensive credit assessments of hedge funds and fund management groups, analysing investment performance, portfolio composition, leverage utilisation, liquidity characteristics, valuation methodologies, financing arrangements, and operational risk controls.
  • Determine and approve appropriate credit, financing, and derivatives limits based on an assessment of counterparty risk, portfolio characteristics, risk appetite, and transaction structure.
  • Review and approve a broad range of client transactions, including OTC derivatives, foreign exchange products, securities financing transactions, repo, prime brokerage, and other capital markets activities, ensuring exposures remain within approved risk parameters. You will also exercise delegated credit authority and represent Credit Risk Management in credit committees, transaction approval discussions, and governance forums, providing independent challenge and risk recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Play a leading role in the review and negotiation of ISDA Master Agreements, Credit Support Annexes, Global Master Repurchase Agreements, Prime Brokerage Agreements, and other trading documentation to ensure appropriate risk mitigation, collateral protection, and close-out rights. In addition, you will prepare annual credit reviews and periodic risk assessments covering performance trends, portfolio exposures, leverage, liquidity, investor concentration, organisational changes, and broader market developments impacting counterparties.
  • Continuously monitor portfolio risk using internal risk systems and external data sources, reviewing utilisation, collateral positions, margin disputes, stress testing results, and emerging risk indicators.

Your skills and experience

  • Experience in credit risk, counterparty risk, market risk, hedge fund due diligence, prime brokerage risk, or related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of hedge fund structures, operating models, and investment strategies, including long/short equity, multi-strategy, event-driven, relative value, macro, quantitative/systematic, and credit-oriented approaches.
  • Experience performing fundamental credit analysis and risk assessments of investment funds, asset managers, or other financial institutions. In addition to having an understanding hedge fund leverage methodologies, liquidity management frameworks, portfolio construction techniques, and risk measurement tools.
  • Product knowledge covering derivatives, securities financing transactions, repo, prime brokerage, and financing products, together with an understanding of their associated counterparty and market risks. Experience reviewing and negotiating legal documentation, including ISDA Master Agreements, Credit Support Annexes, and other trading and financing agreements.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including the interpretation of financial statements, performance reporting, portfolio exposures, and risk metrics. Alongside excellent written communication skills with the ability to prepare concise and persuasive credit assessments and present recommendations to senior stakeholders and credit committees.
  • Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimise workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs.
