About the Role
The Senior Credit Risk Technical Specialist - Capital is a key technical role within Risk Modelling & Measurement, providing specialist expertise in credit risk capital, regulatory capital interpretation and credit risk analytics. Working closely with other Risk areas, Finance, Treasury and wider business functions, the role is key to translating complex regulatory requirements into clear internal specifications, processes, and calculation.
The role holder will support the Society's understanding and management of credit risk capital requirements across lending portfolios, including significant regulatory developments such as Basel 3.1. Acting as a recognised subject matter expert for credit risk capital, risk weighted assets (RWA), capital adequacy and prudential regulation, the role will help shape lending strategy, portfolio management decisions and future business opportunities.
Senior Credit Risk Technical Specialist - Capital will take ownership of end-to-end capital processing and analysis across lending portfolios, supporting the delivery of regulatory returns, RWA reporting and capital insight. The role will help ensure regulatory requirements are effectively interpreted and embedded, while providing expert input into capital adequacy, CET1 performance, product development and lending strategy. The role holder will also work closely with auditors, regulators and senior governance committees to support robust decision-making and regulatory compliance.
Operating within a collaborative and people-focused team, the role holder will lead technical analysis, provide regulatory interpretation, support committee reporting and influence senior stakeholders through evidence-based insight. We operate on a team-led hybrid approach with at least one day per week in either the Coventry or Manchester office.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
