SECOND LINE CREDIT UNDERWRITERS | MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES | LONDON

ETRA Talent is working with two established banking institutions, both looking to strengthen their Credit Risk functions with experienced Second Line Credit Underwriters.

Across these mandates, we are seeking three credit professionals with strong analytical capabilities, sound commercial judgement and experience independently assessing credit risk across corporate and/or financial institution portfolios.

These opportunities offer the chance to join established banking environments where robust credit assessment, independent challenge and prudent risk management are central to the lending process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent second-line reviews of new and existing credit applications across corporate and financial institution portfolios.
  • Undertake detailed financial analysis, assessing borrower financial performance, repayment capacity, business models, transactional structures and wider credit risks.
  • Prepare clear, objective and well-supported credit recommendations for senior management and Credit Committee consideration.
  • Review credit proposals to ensure lending decisions align with established credit policies, risk appetite, internal procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Assess and challenge credit risk ratings, financial analysis and borrower risk classifications to ensure they accurately reflect the underlying risk.
  • Monitor existing credit portfolios, identify emerging risks and deterioration in asset quality, and recommend appropriate mitigating actions.
  • Evaluate lending exposures across areas such as corporate banking, trade finance, receivables and payables financing, asset-backed finance and real estate lending, depending on portfolio coverage.
  • Review financial covenants, facility structures, exposure limits and compliance with agreed credit terms.
  • Contribute to portfolio reviews, IFRS 9 assessments, credit policy enhancements and other risk management initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with Relationship Managers, business units and other control functions, providing constructive challenge while supporting sound commercial decision-making.
  • Monitor relevant economic, political, sectoral and market developments, escalating potential risks that could affect borrowers or portfolio quality.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
