GitLab Senior CX Platform Engineer
An Overview Of This Role
As a Senior CX Platform Engineer, you'll help GitLab's Customer Experience (CX) teams hand real work to artificial intelligence (AI). You'll use Claude Code and GitLab Duo Agent Platform as your default development tools, designing agentic workflows and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers with production testing, security, and shared ownership. This is a software engineering role, not ticket-taking internal IT, AI evangelism disconnected from shipped code, or customer-billable Professional Services delivery.
What You'll Do
- Use Claude Code, GitLab Duo, and other coding agents as your primary development environment for planning, implementation, refactoring, testing, reviews, and documentation. Run multiple agents in parallel on well-scoped tasks, critically review their output, and own every line that reaches production.
- Build and maintain the team's agent harness, including shared AGENTS.md conventions, skills, slash commands, hooks, subagent definitions, and continuous integration checks. Measure and share what works, publish reusable patterns, and retire those that don't.
- Ship agents and multi-step workflows for account research, success planning, scoping, status reporting, and customer onboarding. Package them as skills and plugins for non-engineers using Claude, Claude in Slack, and GitLab Duo Agent Platform.
- Build MCP servers and connectors for governed access to GitLab, Salesforce, Gainsight, Kantata, Thought Industries, Gong, Snowflake, and other enterprise systems. Add evaluations, tracing, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints to keep internal and customer-facing agents measurable, auditable, and safe with customer data.
- Evolve the CX Application Platform's gateway, Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, including Elastic Container Service (ECS), Relational Database Service (RDS), and Lambda, Terraform configuration, application scaffold, and deployment path. Own applications such as PS Compass, Congregate, and GitLab University and its integrations, documenting build-versus-buy and consolidate-or-sunset decisions.
- Ship production-quality Python and TypeScript through GitLab continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), with tests, observability, security review, and runbooks. Design every application for handoff, with documentation, monitoring, and shared ownership.
- Prototype with Customer Success, Digital Success, Professional Services, Education Services, and Training in days, not quarters. Help CX team members bring their own applications to production, and turn field learning into reusable reference implementations, development paths, and enablement.
- Contribute upstream to GitLab and share product feedback with Product and Engineering. Mentor engineers and non-engineers on agentic development and raise the team's code review bar.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What You'll Bring
- Experience building and operating production software, owning multi-quarter work from ambiguity to production, choosing reusable platform solutions over one-off customization where appropriate, and designing for handoff.
- Daily, hands-on use of coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitLab Duo, or similar on production work. You can show how they've changed what you ship and how you maintain quality.
- Experience building with large language models (LLMs) beyond chat, including tool use, MCP servers, agent loops, context and retrieval design, prompt and workflow design, and evaluations.
- Strong Python skills with FastAPI or Flask and TypeScript skills with Vue or React, including application programming interface (API) design, authentication, authorization, and secure handling of customer and business data.
- Hands-on experience with AWS ECS, RDS, and Lambda, Terraform, Docker, and applications running behind single sign-on (SSO), such as Okta.
- Experience integrating enterprise systems through Representational State Transfer (REST) and GraphQL APIs, and fluency with Git, merge requests, and CI/CD.
- Experience translating non-engineering stakeholders' workflows into technical plans and writing clear asynchronous design documents, decision records, and enablement materials. You align with GitLab's values and are willing to use GitLab for your own work.
- Optional experience includes agent harness customization; the GitLab Development Kit, Duo Agent Platform custom agents and flows, or AI Catalog publishing; enterprise agent governance and data controls; customer success, professional services, or learning platforms such as Salesforce, Gainsight, Kantata, or Thought Industries; professional services economics and customer success metrics; Snowflake or similar warehouses; and technical writing, talks, or open source contributions on agentic development.
We welcome interest from candidates with varying levels of experience; you don't need to meet every nice-to-have to apply.
About The Team
CX Platform Engineering builds and runs CX Applications for Customer Success, Digital Success, Professional Services, Education Services, and Training. We own the CX Application Platform's gateway and infrastructure alongside our application portfolio: GitLab University, the Foundational Onboarding Agent in GitLab Duo Agent Platform, Congregate, PS Compass, and Customer Wins. We build the first version with the people doing the work, turn what we learn into a reusable pattern, then hand it off so it runs without us. We reward leverage, not heroics, and don't leave tools dependent on one person.
