Senior Cyber Security Engineer – Assurance | 12-Month Contract
Work arrangement: Hybrid
Weekly onsite requirement: Chippenham or Ashby-de-la-Zouch
Contract: 12 months
Sector: Rail / Operational Technology / Critical Infrastructure
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Cyber Security Engineer (Assurance) to join a leading rail technology organisation, supporting the delivery of secure, resilient and safety-critical Operational Technology (OT) systems.
This is a senior technical role with responsibility across the full engineering lifecycle — from bid and architecture through development, testing, commissioning and ongoing support.
You’ll work closely with engineering, project delivery, product, customer and security teams to ensure that cybersecurity requirements are properly defined, implemented, tested and evidenced.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead cybersecurity engineering and assurance activities across OT and rail projects.
- Develop and maintain Cyber Security Management Plans and track delivery against time, cost and quality.
- Define and manage cybersecurity requirements throughout the engineering lifecycle.
- Perform threat and risk assessments and define appropriate security controls and countermeasures.
- Develop secure architectures using zones and conduits and establish appropriate protection mechanisms.
- Apply IEC 62443 and relevant rail/OT cybersecurity standards and regulations.
- Support compliance with TS 50701, CENELEC, NIS/NIS2, EU Cyber Resilience Act and other applicable requirements.
- Assess third-party products and components against security requirements.
- Review security engineering artefacts and assurance evidence.
- Develop security test strategies and verify security requirements during system, factory and site acceptance testing.
- Support and/or lead security validation activities, including penetration testing and vulnerability assessment.
- Represent cybersecurity at project milestone and stage-gate reviews.
- Mentor and develop engineers within product and solution security.
- Support vulnerability and incident analysis and contribute to continuous improvement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
