Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual interested in Performance management and improvement in CNWL Milton Keynes Services. As an experienced analyst, you will be a vital part of the CNWL Milton Keynes Performance Team, responsible for analysing, reporting performance and activity against national external and internal targets.

The post-holder will need strong data analysis skills, innate problem-solving ability and excellent communication skills. You should have experience analysing large quantities of data, developing new information reporting solutions, and ideally have experience advising and assisting colleagues and stakeholders.

The post-holder will be a self-motivated individual who has an organised and logical approach to work and enjoys working flexibly under pressure in a busy team and working on your initiative to achieve deadlines.

In addition to your experience in a performance and reporting environment, you will need to demonstrate your analytical skills, your ability to report and interpret data in a way that is understood by operational staff, and be confident in developing action plans to address any areas of concern.

The post-holder should ideally have advanced SQL and MS Excel skills. Experience in using SystmOne, IAPTUS, Tableau or experience developing using BI tools would be advantageous but not essential.

Main duties of the job

The CNWL Milton Keynes services use a number of clinical systems, including SystmOne, IAPTUS, Sensai and Auditbase; the post holder will need to become very familiar with these systems and NHS digital to ensure that we are harnessing all the information available to enable the services to be effective and efficient in delivering excellent patient care.

The post holder will also be required to develop business intelligence tools and relationships to provide a holistic and whole system approach to business information provided to support both the wider Performance and BI agenda and the services plans for growth and development in other service and geographical areas.

The Milton Keynes Performance Team is a well established experienced team working with operational services to ensure that the performance and information requirements of all services are achieved. The team have a collaborative work ethic ensuring that all team members are supported and skills and experience are shared across the team. The Milton Keynes Performance Team is part of the wider Diggory Finance, Performance and Contracts Divisional Team.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The role will play a lead role in the development of effective business intelligence and systems serving to support a high-performance culture.

This will involve but not be limited to:

  • Developing BI tools for key internal and external stakeholders providing insightful analysis relating to service delivery.
  • Provide expert and specialist skills required to develop new system extracts and BI reports.
  • Ensure that NHS Digital reports and local clinical systems are reconciled and actions taken to ensure NHS Digital submissions accurately reflect service delivery.
  • Attending SMT and Operational meetings to share Performance insights and intelligence with services and other stakeholders.

Essential criteria

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience
  • Evidence of commitment to personal development

Desirable criteria

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in information or business analysis related discipline

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Proven ability to use databases/information systems for data collation, manipulation, retention and extraction.
  • Development using a BI tool.
  • Proven ability to analyse and interpret written and numerical data to identify trends and variances and to resolve identified problems
  • Conversant in Microsoft Office software systems including advanced technical skills in Excel, MS-SQL / T-SQL with an ability to develop complex database extracts.
  • Working to deadlines and maintain momentum when faced with difficulties
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex issues to managers and staff which may sometimes be contentious.
  • Committed to high work standards
  • Ability to provide clear and helpful guidance on complex matters to a range of stakeholder audiences at varying levels of seniority

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of developing using a BI tool (Tableau/ Power BI )
  • Experience in Data modelling and developing demand and capacity models
  • Good knowledge of commissioning-related systems, data flows and the national policy
  • Knowledge of NHS data standards, the NHS data model and the data dictionary

Experience

Essential criteria

  • NHS or public sector experience including, demonstrable experience in analysing patient activity, financial and performance monitoring and management.
  • Project management and monitoring experience including reporting on performance.
  • Experience of quantitative and qualitative data audits/analysis for benchmarking & performance monitoring purposes.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting complex data or sensitive information in a variety of formats to individuals or groups of people with different levels of understanding

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of participating in change initiatives in the NHS
  • Experience of co-ordination and planning of complex information improvement projects to meet service requirements
  • Experience of using and applying analytical statistical processes
