What we are looking for
You are the person who connects the dots.
At HSAT, we predict global food supply using data from satellites, weather systems, market feeds, surveys and around 2,000 people visiting fields and farms around the world.
When a client describes a complicated commercial problem, you can work out what is really happening beneath the surface. You understand what data might answer the question, how different sources could fit together, and where data can—and cannot—support a decision.
You are not a traditional salesperson, a pure technical specialist or a consultant who wants to stay at a distance from the work. You want to get into the problem.
You ask good questions, explore the evidence, identify the important connections and turn an unclear client challenge into something that can actually be solved.

HSAT helps the world understand crops.
Our platforms, CropGPT and CropManager, combine billions of data points to produce real-time intelligence on agricultural commodities.
We forecast cocoa production in Côte d’Ivoire to within three per cent, and Indian sugar production six months before harvest to within two per cent. Some of the world’s largest traders, producers and food companies rely on our intelligence to make decisions involving supply chains and markets worth hundreds of millions of pounds.
Our systems combine satellites, AI, large language models, agents and automated data pipelines with information collected directly from farms and fields. It is the combination of the digital and physical worlds that allows us to understand what is really happening on the ground.

The role
We are hiring a Senior Data Consultant to work directly with clients and turn complex commercial questions into data-led answers.
You will sit between the client, our data and our technical teams.
Your role is to understand the client’s real problem, know what data we have, identify what additional data we could obtain, and work out how those sources can be combined to produce a useful answer.
This is a commercial role, but not a traditional sales position. You will grow client relationships and drive revenue by solving valuable problems.
You are not expected to arrive as an expert in every crop, market or dataset. You are expected to become useful quickly.
You will:
- work directly with senior clients to understand complex commercial and operational problems;
- find the real question beneath the initial request;
- identify which data sources and analytical approaches could help;
- explore data sufficiently to test ideas, spot patterns and ask better questions;
- work closely with data scientists, engineers and domain experts to shape the solution;
- explain findings clearly and help clients turn intelligence into action;
- take ownership from the first conversation through to delivery; and
- identify new ways that HSAT’s data and technology can create value.

Who we are looking for
We are looking for someone with strong consulting judgement, genuine curiosity and a natural feel for data.
You might currently be a manager, senior manager, director, vice president or experienced consultant. Your precise title matters less than how you work.
You are likely to have experience in consulting, analytics, data strategy, performance improvement, transformation, commercial strategy or another role requiring you to understand unfamiliar businesses and solve poorly defined problems.
You do not need to be a data engineer or advanced programmer, but data should be part of how you think. You should be comfortable examining a dataset, challenging an analysis and asking whether the evidence supports the conclusion.
You can take a broad, tangled question and break it into manageable parts. You become conversant in unfamiliar industries quickly, recognise patterns and form sensible hypotheses.
You are credible with clients because you understand the substance. You listen carefully, challenge constructively and communicate clearly with senior people.
You can have a useful conversation with a data scientist or engineer, then explain the same issue to a commercial leader.
Most importantly, you are a doer. You are willing to open the data, investigate an unfamiliar subject, write the first version, speak directly with the client and follow an idea until you know whether it works.
