I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About the opportunity
Our data platform powers Beamery’s reporting and underpins our AI strategy. We’re hiring a Senior Data Engineer to build and run major parts of it.
You’ll own significant components end to end: pipelines, models, and the analytics layer. You’ll work within an architecture you’ll help improve, alongside Engineering, Product, and Design. The platform exists so everyone at Beamery can make faster decisions with data they trust.
What will you be doing at Beamery?
- Build and run production data pipelines. Design, implement, and operate scalable ETL pipelines and storage, owning uptime and data correctness for what you ship.
- Develop the analytics and semantic layer. Model core business metrics and feature usage signals into clean, trustworthy data products for BI, self-service, and AI consumers.
- Make data self-service. Build the monitoring, alerting, and data-quality checks that let other teams trust and use the platform without you in the loop.
- Raise the bar for the team. Mentor engineers and improve our patterns for coding, data modeling, and pipeline design through review and pairing.
What we’re looking for
You’re a senior data engineer who has built and operated production data platforms: warehousing, lakes, and both streaming and batch. You’ve owned pipelines through failure and fixed them properly, not just restarted them. You work autonomously, communicate clearly with technical and business audiences, and design for the change you know is coming.

Get help with your application
Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
Previous professional experience:
- Data transformations using dbt
- Data storage (SQL / NoSQL): schema design and data modeling; exposure to multi-tenant systems
- Back-end engineering: Python (nice to have: Typescript/Node.JS)
- Pipelines: streaming and batch, and keeping them correct as they evolve
- Data quality and observability: testing, monitoring, alerting, and incident response
- Infrastructure as code and containerisation (Terraform, Kubernetes)
Our data stack
Our stack will change as we grow, and you’ll be shaping those changes. The ability to learn new tools matters more than experience with any specific one.
- DBT for data modeling and transformation
- BigQuery data warehouse
- Kafka for data streaming between systems
- PostgreSQL & MongoDB for databases
- Typescript/Node.JS on the backend
- Kubernetes
- Python
- Segment for customer-centric event collection
