Role: Senior Data Engineer

Compensation: £85,000 – £115,000 per year + Bonus & Equity Options
About the Role
We are recruiting a Senior Data Engineer on behalf of our client, a leading global online delivery and marketplace platform in London. In this core engineering role, you will architect, build, and maintain enterprise data pipelines, real-time streaming architectures, and cloud data warehouses that power analytics, machine learning, and operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, construct, and scale robust batch and real-time streaming ETL/ELT pipelines processing billions of events daily.
- Maintain and optimize enterprise data lakehouse infrastructure on Snowflake, BigQuery, and AWS/GCP cloud environments.
- Implement scalable data models, star schemas, and dimensional tables using dbt and modern data modeling practices.
- Build automated data quality, monitoring, and alerting frameworks to ensure high data integrity, reliability, and SLA adherence.
- Partner closely with Data Science, Analytics, and Product Engineering teams to supply clean, analysis-ready datasets.
- Champion data engineering best practices, CI/CD for data pipelines, automated testing, and comprehensive schema documentation.
- Optimize query performance, storage costs, and compute resource allocation across cloud data platforms.

Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of dedicated data engineering experience with strong proficiency in Python, Scala, or Java, and advanced SQL.
- Deep expertise with distributed computing engines (Spark, PySpark) and streaming technologies (Kafka, Flink, Kinesis).
- Proven track record working with modern cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster).
- Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals, version control (Git), Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience designing scalable dimensional data models and data governance frameworks.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills in English.
