Role: Senior Data Engineer

Compensation: £85,000 – £115,000 per year + Bonus & Equity Options
About the Role:
On behalf of our client, a premier global food-tech and delivery platform, we are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the central Data Platform team in London. You will build resilient, high-throughput data infrastructure, real-time event streaming systems, and scalable analytical foundations supporting global commercial, logistics, and customer intelligence platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect, deploy, and scale high-velocity data ingestion pipelines integrating hundreds of internal microservices and external partner APIs.
- Develop and optimize real-time streaming architectures using Apache Kafka and Apache Flink for real-time dispatch and order analytics.
- Design, maintain, and govern dimensional data marts and semantic layers using Snowflake and dbt.
- Establish automated data observability, anomaly detection, and lineage tracking across multi-stage data pipelines.
- Collaborate with machine learning engineers and analytics teams to provide low-latency feature stores and reliable training pipelines.
- Enforce strict data governance, data privacy (GDPR), and access control standards across corporate data assets.
- Mentor junior data engineers, conduct technical code reviews, and drive architecture standardization across squads.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Engineer building high-scale distributed data architectures.
- Advanced proficiency in Python or Scala, alongside expert-level SQL and query optimization capabilities.
- Hands-on mastery of cloud data platforms (AWS or GCP), data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery), and orchestration tools (Airflow).
- Extensive experience with stream processing (Kafka, Flink) and distributed data processing frameworks (Spark).
- Strong background in CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
- Fluency in English with strong technical communication skills.
