Senior Data Engineer

Permanent

3-4 days in the office per week in London

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer with deep expertise in Databricks to join our UK team in a permanent capacity. In this client-facing role, you will design, build, and scale modern, production-grade data platforms. This is a hands-on technical position where you will actively develop end-to-end data pipelines while guiding technical strategy, architecture, and engineering best practices.

What You'll Do

  • Platform Engineering: Design and implement robust, end-to-end modern data platforms using Databricks.
  • Pipeline Development: Build and optimize scalable data pipelines leveraging Spark and distributed computing.
  • Client Collaboration: Work closely with UK-based and global client stakeholders to translate business requirements into high-performing technical solutions.
  • Engineering Standards: Drive best practices across the full data lifecycle, including automated testing, CI/CD, and production deployments.
  • Performance & Cost Optimization: Continually optimize performance, scalability, and cost efficiency across enterprise data workloads.
  • Architecture & Leadership: Contribute to core architectural decisions while remaining deeply involved in implementation and mentoring team members on modern data stack approaches.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: Strong background in data engineering, data platform architecture, and analytics (typically 7+ years).
  • Databricks Expertise: Proven track record of delivering end-to-end data solutions natively on the Databricks platform.
  • Spark & Distributed Systems: Deep, hands-on experience with Apache Spark and distributed systems, including advanced performance tuning.
  • Cloud Platforms: Solid experience building and deploying data solutions on major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Delivery & Best Practices: Hands-on experience establishing production-grade data pipelines backed by robust CI/CD and MLOps practices.
  • Consulting Mindset: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interface directly with clients, present technical strategies, and drive outcomes.

  • Databricks certifications (e.g., Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional).
  • Direct experience with cost management and performance tuning in large-scale data environments.
  • Exposure to advanced Databricks ecosystem capabilities (such as Delta Live Tables, Unity Catalog, or MLOps integrations).
