🚨 Senior Data Engineer | Outside IR35 | £550–£675/day | Central London
I'm currently partnering with a global organisation undergoing a major transformation of its data platform and engineering capability. They're looking to bring in an experienced Senior Data Engineer to help define engineering standards, improve platform performance and deliver scalable, enterprise-grade data solutions.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing team where you'll have a real influence over architecture, engineering best practices and the future direction of the data platform.

Senior Data Engineer
Outside IR35
£550–£650 per day (depending on experience)
6-month initial contract
ASAP Start
Central London – 1-2 days onsite per week
What You'll Be Doing
As a Senior Data Engineer you'll be responsible for designing, building and optimising modern cloud-based data platforms while helping establish engineering standards across the wider team.
You'll be involved in:
- Designing scalable, high-performance data pipelines
- Optimising enterprise-scale data platforms for speed, reliability and cost
- Driving engineering best practices across data development
- Reviewing code and maintaining engineering quality standards
- Building reusable data engineering frameworks and design patterns
- Working closely with architects, data teams and business stakeholders
- Driving automation across CI/CD pipelines and engineering processes
- Mentoring engineers and promoting engineering excellence throughout the team

Essential Technical Skills
We're looking for someone with strong experience across modern Azure data technologies alongside exceptional SQL expertise.
Expert SQL (Essential)
You should be comfortable working with complex, enterprise-scale databases and be able to demonstrate experience with:
- Advanced SQL development across large-scale datasets
- Query optimisation and performance tuning
- Reading and analysing execution plans
- Indexing strategies and database optimisation
- Performance diagnosis and troubleshooting slow-running queries
- Writing highly efficient, scalable SQL code
- Data modelling and relational database design
- Building reliable ETL/ELT solutions
- Optimising data warehouse performance
- Working with complex transformations and high-volume datasets

Ideal Background
You'll likely have:
- 6+ years of experience within Data Engineering
- Strong experience delivering modern cloud data platforms
- Experience working in enterprise or large-scale environments
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A passion for improving engineering standards and mentoring other engineers
- Experience operating within Agile engineering teams
