6-Month Contract, London Remote/Hybrid
We're supporting a well-funded, fast-growing retail consumer-focused business as they modernise a critical part of their commercial technology and data estate.
They're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to lead the data engineering workstream within a major customer platform transformation programme. This is a hands-on role focused on building resilient data pipelines, protecting data quality, and ensuring business-critical reporting and operational systems continue to run seamlessly during a large-scale migration.
You'll Be Doing
- Designing and maintaining high-volume data pipelines feeding a modern cloud data platform
- Driving data quality, observability, monitoring and alerting across critical customer and commercial datasets
- Implementing data contracts, SLAs and governance processes to improve reliability
- Ensuring upstream system changes don't negatively impact downstream reporting, analytics or operational workflows
- Supporting the migration and redesign of key customer and commercial data models
- Working closely with Product, Operations, Technology and Data teams to influence architecture decisions
- Improving data resilience across a complex ecosystem of business systems and integrations

What We're Looking For
- Strong experience building and operating production-grade data pipelines
- Expertise in data modelling, pipeline reliability, monitoring and data quality practices
- Experience working with modern cloud data platforms such as BigQuery, Snowflake or Redshift
- Strong Python and SQL skills
- Experience with dbt and orchestration tooling such as Airflow
- Exposure to reverse ETL, customer data platforms or commercial data ecosystems
- Ability to work across technical and non-technical teams and influence stakeholders
- A proactive, self-sufficient engineer who can quickly add value in a fast-moving environment

Desirable Experience
- GCP and BigQuery
- Census or similar reverse ETL tooling
- Segment or customer data platforms
- CRM and customer lifecycle data
- Ecommerce, retail, SaaS or subscription-based businesses
- AI-assisted engineering tools such as Copilot or Claude
