Senior Data Engineer - Microsoft Fabric | Birmingham – 1 day per week onsite | £60,000 – £70,000 + bonus
We are working with a large UK organisation undergoing a significant digital transformation programme and looking to hire a Senior Data Engineer into their growing Data & Analytics team. In this role, you will play a key part in developing and enhancing the organisation's enterprise data platform, enabling data-driven decision-making across the business.
The Role
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-scale data solutions across Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric environments. You will help shape the company's modern data architecture, ensuring reliable, scalable, and secure data platforms that support reporting, analytics, and future innovation.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines and architectures using Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL, COINS Analytics, and Analysis Services.
- Developing and managing enterprise-grade ETL/ELT processes while ensuring data quality, governance, and lineage across the data estate.
- Designing and optimising relational, analytical, and lakehouse-style data models to support enterprise reporting and analytics.
- Enabling scalable and high-performing BI reporting solutions through Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
- Implementing data quality, governance, and standardisation frameworks to maintain trusted business data.
- Creating and maintaining technical documentation covering data pipelines, architecture, and data flows.
- Driving security and compliance best practices, including role-based access controls and governance standards.
- Collaborating with business stakeholders to identify opportunities for data-driven insights and process improvements.
- Championing innovation through emerging technologies such as Databricks, AI/ML integrations, and Microsoft Fabric Real-Time Analytics.

What We're Looking For
- 5+ years' experience in Data Engineering roles, with a focus on Microsoft Fabric
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric technologies.
- Expertise in Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL, Analysis Services,
- Advanced SQL skills with strong experience in data modelling and database optimisation.
- Proven track record delivering enterprise-scale ETL/ELT solutions and modern data architectures.
- Strong understanding of data governance, security, quality frameworks, and best practices.
- Experience developing Power BI solutions including DAX, Power Query, and Power BI Service.
- Knowledge of modern data platforms including Data Lakes, Lakehouse architectures, and Microsoft Fabric.

Desirable Experience
- Exposure to Databricks, Spark, Python, or Scala for data engineering workloads.
- Experience working with AI/ML pipelines and integrations within Azure and Fabric environments.
- Knowledge of data observability and monitoring tools.
- Awareness of emerging Microsoft technologies including Fabric Real-Time Analytics, Data Activator, and Copilot capabilities.
- Experience working with COINS ERP data would be highly beneficial.
- Experience working within large, complex business environments would be advantageous.
Salary & Benefits
- £60,000 – £70,000 base salary
- 5% annual bonus
