Senior Data Engineer (Hybrid – 2 Days/London Bridge Office)

Hometrack is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our Product Team, helping us deliver Hometrack’s Data Services ambitions. By curating the best property data sets available, which underpin the market-leading Automated Valuation Model (AVM)—trusted by 17 of the UK’s top 20 mortgage lenders—we enable customers to make critical decisions: to buy, to lend, to build.

The Data Services Team

Our team supports hundreds of customers across the property sector, including:

  • Mortgage lenders
  • House builders
  • Property investors
  • FinTech & PropTech firms
  • Insurers
  • Telecoms & retail providers
  • Utilities industries
  • Other housing market stakeholders

Our mission is to empower decision-makers by placing the UK’s most trusted property data and insights at the heart of the sector’s ecosystem.

A diverse product range is delivered via multiple mechanisms:

About the Role

Hometrack is looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to help realise our data ambitions.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will:

  • Take accountability for team outcomes, contributing to goals and shaping success through measurable impact.
  • Drive continuous improvement, fostering a culture of innovation to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Write maintainable, testable code with a focus on best practices and collaboration, including code reviews.
  • Engineer scalable, high-performance data pipelines optimised for speed and reliability.
  • Ensure data product stability, security, accuracy, observability and performance—balancing technical excellence with user needs.
  • Collaborate closely across Product, Analytics, Security and Software teams, translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

Technical Focus

Essential:

  • Proven expertise in Databricks, Delta Lake and Lakehouse architectures, driving efficient data governance.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL processes, including unification of raw, structured and unstructured data sources.
  • SQL & PySpark mastery, leveraging them for optimised query performance.
  • Strong preference for Python (core framework) but open to Scala if relevant.
  • A track record of building and delivering data products, ensuring seamless customer interaction.

Requirements

  • Broad, senior-level data engineering experience with incremental input into product strategy.
  • Strong foundation in modern data warehouse and data lake management, including scheduling, batch and real-time pipelines.
  • Aptitude for data governance, security and compliance; able to justify architectural decisions with key stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a keenness to explore and scale novel areas (AI/ML pipelines included).
  • Experience as a collaborative engineer, comfortable mentoring juniors and facilitating team growth.

Hybrid Working Pattern

  • 2 days per week at our London Bridge Office.
