Senior Data Engineer
Microsoft Fabric - Power BI - SQL - Azure
Location: Fully Remote
Duration: Initially 3 months (Likely extensions)
£500-550 per day, Inside IR35
We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join a small, high-performing team and take ownership of the data pipelines that transform complex raw data into valuable insights for customers.
Their platform runs on Microsoft Fabric and Azure. You'll be working across the whole flow, from ingestion and transformation through to the dashboards clients actually see. This suits someone who enjoys breadth and wants visibility over the full lifecycle rather than a narrow slice of it.
This is a hands-on role in a small team. You'll have real influence over how things are built.
What you'll be doing:
- Maintaining, extending and troubleshooting data pipelines in Microsoft Fabric, including ad-hoc changes to existing pipelines and Python notebooks
- Building and maintaining Power BI dashboards and reports for internal and client-facing use
- Writing and optimising SQL against their Azure SQL estate - transformations, data quality checks, and performance tuning
- Investigating and resolving pipeline failures, and improving the resilience and observability of what we run
- Documenting how things work so the team isn't dependent on any single person
- Working directly with their research and client teams to understand what the data needs to answer

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
