Senior Data Engineer - Contract (SQL Server, SSIS & BIML)

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Contract Data Engineer to support a number of business-critical data integration and automation initiatives. This role is ideally suited to a contractor with extensive experience across the Microsoft data stack, particularly SQL Server, SSIS, and BIML, who can quickly integrate into the team and deliver high-quality solutions from day one.

The successful contractor will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimising ETL processes, automating SSIS package generation through BIML, and supporting the ongoing enhancement of the organisation's data platform. This is a hands-on delivery role requiring strong technical expertise and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain complex ETL solutions using SQL Server and SSIS.
  • Develop and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and database objects.
  • Utilise BIML extensively to automate the development and maintenance of SSIS packages.
  • Design, build, and support scalable data integration pipelines.
  • Optimise ETL performance and troubleshoot existing data solutions.
  • Work closely with technical and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver robust data engineering solutions.
  • Develop automation scripts using Python and PowerShell where appropriate.
  • Support workflow automation using Microsoft PowerApps and Power Automate.
  • Contribute to Azure-based data initiatives and deployment activities where required.
  • Participate in source control and deployment processes using Azure DevOps.
  • Ensure all solutions adhere to development standards, governance, and best practices.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
