The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Data Engineer to join our team in London. You will design, build, and maintain robust systems and infrastructure for processing and analysing large-scale, complex datasets. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our data engineering capabilities and drive impactful projects from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and lead a team of data engineers in several locations, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Data Pipeline Development: Design and implement efficient batch and streaming data pipelines capable of handling large volumes of real-time and batch market data using tools such as Python, Apache Airflow, Apache Kafka, and Apache Flink.
- Data Warehousing: Build and maintain scalable, reliable data warehousing solutions using Snowflake.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Develop and manage robust cloud-based systems on AWS.
- CI/CD Automation: Enhance and automate development, testing, and deployment processes using tools such as GitLab.
- System Monitoring: Oversee the maintenance and monitoring of data applications, pipelines, and databases using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with data scientists, analysts, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
- Agile Participation: Engage in daily stand-ups and team meetings to coordinate development efforts and ensure project alignment.
- Product Development: Collaborate with stakeholders to design and build analytical products and services that drive business value.

About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- 4+ years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
- Proficiency in Python (with frameworks such as Pandas, Dask, or PySpark) and SQL.
- Experience building and integrating REST APIs (e.g., FastAPI).
- Hands-on experience with AWS, Snowflake, Kubernetes, and Airflow.
- Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch).
- Strong Linux and command line skills.
- Proven experience hiring, mentoring, and leading junior engineers.
- Solid understanding of ETL processes and event streaming technologies (Kafka, Flink, etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both technical and business teams.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
