Senior Data Engineer – Microsoft Fabric
Birmingham preferred | Also open to London, Leeds, Reading & Bristol
£65,000–£75,000 + 10% bonus + 7% pension + benefits
Hybrid – currently typically 2 days per month in London or Birmingham
If you’re working hands-on with Microsoft Fabric and have stayed close enough to your solutions to build them, support them and improve them in production, this role is worth considering. A UK Wealth Management business is modernising its enterprise data platform and moving from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric. They’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer who can take ownership of that work while remaining firmly hands-on. You’ll design, build and deploy production data solutions yourself. You’ll also have the experience to make good technical decisions, solve difficult engineering problems and provide guidance to other engineers when needed. This isn’t a role where becoming “senior” means moving away from engineering.
What you’ll be working on
Microsoft Fabric is becoming central to the data environment, supporting operational, reporting and analytics requirements across the business.
You’ll work across:
- Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Warehouse and OneLake
- Data pipelines and ETL/ELT
- Power BI
- SQL and data modelling
- Azure Data Lake
- Internal and third-party API integrations
- Azure DevOps, Git and CI/CD
- Production deployment, support and ongoing improvement
- Existing Azure Synapse solutions during the transition to Fabric

You’ll also help improve engineering quality and maintainability, troubleshoot production problems and share knowledge with other engineers.
What we’re looking for
Microsoft Fabric and Power BI are both important requirements. For Fabric in particular, we’re looking for someone who has been hands-on with it in their current or most recent role.
Just as importantly, you should have experience owning what happens after the initial build. That means supporting solutions in production, resolving problems, improving them and seeing the longer-term consequences of your technical decisions. Ideally, you’ll have developed that experience over a sustained period rather than moving on immediately after implementation. The depth and continuity of your Fabric experience matter more than an arbitrary number of years.
You’ll also need a strong grounding in Data Engineering, including:
- SQL
- ETL/ELT
- Data modelling
- Azure data platforms
- API integration
- Source control
- CI/CD and deployment
- Building and supporting production data solutions
Azure Synapse experience would be useful but isn’t essential.
You’ll need previous experience developing and deploying software or data solutions within a highly regulated environment. Financial Services experience is strongly preferred, particularly Wealth Management, Banking or Insurance.
Where AI fits
You don’t need to be an AI or Machine Learning Engineer. The business is increasing its investment in AI, including Azure AI Foundry and wider Microsoft AI technologies. Some practical experience using Copilot or another LLM within your engineering work would be useful. That could be for development, debugging, code validation, documentation or experimenting with AI-enabled data solutions. You’ll have the opportunity to build on that experience as AI becomes more integrated into the wider data environment.

Package and location
£65,000–£75,000 basic salary
10% annual bonus

Birmingham is the preferred location, although the role can also be aligned to London, Leeds, Reading or Bristol. The current working pattern is typically two days per month in either the London or Birmingham office.
You’ll need to live within approximately one hour’s commute of one of the company’s offices in Birmingham, London, Leeds, Reading or Bristol, and be prepared to work from an office up to three days per week if future business requirements change.
So, while the current arrangement offers considerable flexibility, this isn’t being positioned as a permanently remote role.
