Senior Data Engineer
Join a high-performing data and analytics team delivering critical reporting, insight, and data solutions that support large-scale operational and business functions. This role sits within a team responsible for transforming management information capabilities, improving data quality, and enabling better decision-making through data-driven insights.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will help shape and deliver the organisation's data strategy by designing, building and optimising data pipelines, integrating data from multiple sources, and developing scalable data solutions. You'll lead a small team of Data Engineers, support the delivery of new and enhanced data products, and work closely with analytics, infrastructure and stakeholder teams to ensure reliable, secure and future-proof data services.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and test data products using data feeds from multiple systems and storage technologies.
- Develop, maintain and enhance data models to support business reporting and analytical needs.
- Deliver ETL processes and identify new data sources to improve insight and decision-making.
- Conduct data profiling and source system analysis, providing clear recommendations and insights.
- Support projects through the full development lifecycle, from requirements gathering through to deployment.
- Monitor and improve data quality across source systems.
- Ensure solutions meet security, privacy and governance standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven outcomes.
- Lead and mentor a small team of Data Engineers, supporting their development and removing delivery blockers.

What We're Looking For
- Experience delivering data analysis, reporting or data engineering projects.
- Strong T-SQL development skills, with experience using tools such as Azure Data Studio, SQL Server Management Studio or Azure Synapse.
- Experience with cloud-based data integration and analytics platforms, particularly Azure technologies.
- Knowledge of data engineering and analysis tools such as Excel, Access and Business Objects.
- Familiarity with Python, R and/or VBA.
- Understanding of data modelling, database design and working with complex datasets.
- Experience gathering and translating business requirements into technical solutions.
- Previous team leadership, line management or project delivery experience.

Desirable
- Knowledge of data engineering best practices, patterns and methodologies.
- Experience working with large, complex operational datasets.
- Degree in a numerate subject or equivalent practical experience.
Location
Manchester, London, Liverpool or Sheffield - 1 day a week
Security Clearance
Must be eligible for SC clearance or already hold active SC clearance.
Contract
6 Month FTC
