Job Title: Senior Software Engineer

Location: Sutton (2 days in the office - Tuesdays and Thursday)

Salary/Rate: £400-450 per day inside IR35

Start Date: August

Job Type: Initial 12 month contract

We have an exciting opportunity now available with one of our sector-leading consultancy clients! They are currently looking for a skilled Senior Software Engineer to join their team in Sutton on a hybrid basis.

Job Responsibilities/Objectives

This role involves leading complex research, design, and software development activities within a defined functional area. It contributes directly to project plans, schedules, and development methodologies for cross-functional software products.

The role includes designing software solutions—often spanning multiple systems—mentoring more junior team members, and collaborating with users and customers to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.

  • Write and review detailed specifications for the development of complex system components.
  • Collaborate closely with team members in an Agile environment to understand complex product requirements and translate them into software and data designs.
  • Follow established development processes, applying coding standards and security best practices, and actively participate in code reviews.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, including debugging and defect resolution.
  • Contribute to the design and evolution of complex data models.
  • Act as the primary point of expertise for supporting and maintaining the existing Data Lakehouse platform.

  • Strong proficiency in data manipulation languages, including performance optimisation techniques.
  • Strong understanding of both normalised and dimensional data modelling principles.
  • Strong knowledge of multiple data storage systems and architectures.
  • Expertise in Python development, along with query languages including SQL and NoSQL.
  • Solid knowledge of DevOps practices, with hands-on experience using GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with AWS services such as S3, Lambda, SQS, SNS, and IAM is desirable.
  • Proven knowledge and hands-on experience with ETL processes and data synchronisation pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake (or similar cloud data warehouse platforms) is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Terraform, Linux, and .NET technologies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
