The Role
At Envitia, we're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help design and deliver cutting-edge data solutions for customers operating in some of the UK's most complex and challenging environments. Using Databricks, Apache Spark and cloud-native technologies, you'll develop scalable Lakehouse architectures and production-grade data pipelines that enable organisations to trust, share and exploit their data more effectively.
You'll have the opportunity to take technical ownership of high-impact data engineering projects, working alongside talented engineers, architects and data specialists to tackle complex challenges at scale. Beyond delivering solutions, you'll help shape best practice, mentor team members and influence the future direction of our data engineering capability.
If you're a data engineer who enjoys combining hands-on technical delivery with technical leadership and wants to work on meaningful programmes that make a difference, Envitia offers an exciting opportunity to grow your career while helping customers unlock the power of their data.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and optimise scalable data pipelines using Databricks, Apache Spark, PySpark and Delta Lake.
- Develop and implement modern Lakehouse architectures, applying Medallion (Bronze, Silver, Gold) design principles to support trusted and reusable data products.
- Build robust ETL and ELT processes that ingest, transform and curate large, complex and diverse datasets.
- Drive best practice in data quality, monitoring, alerting and operational support to ensure reliable and resilient data solutions.
- Optimise platform performance, scalability and cost through effective management of compute, storage and orchestration services.
- Contribute to the design and evolution of enterprise data architectures, standards and engineering patterns across customer programmes.
- Integrate data platforms with cloud-native services, data lakes, event streams, warehouses and other enterprise systems.
- Implement data governance, security and access controls, including Unity Catalog or equivalent technologies, to ensure data remains secure, discoverable and compliant.
- Lead technical delivery across data engineering workstreams, ensuring solutions meet customer requirements, quality standards and delivery timelines.
- Collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, architects and business stakeholders to deliver end-to-end data solutions that create measurable value.
- Support DevOps and CI/CD practices for data engineering, enabling efficient deployment, testing and operational management of data products.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practice, contributing to the ongoing evolution of Envitia's data engineering capability.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
