Senior Data Migration Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Migration Engineer to join the data engineering team of a fast-growing UK retailer. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on Data Engineer with strong experience across data migration, data integration, ETL/ELT and modern data platforms to play a key role in the continued development and modernisation of the organisation's data estate.
This is an Outside IR35 contract opportunity and will suit an experienced Data Engineer who enjoys working on complex data challenges, taking ownership of technical solutions and delivering high-quality, production-ready data engineering capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for designing and building scalable data migration, ingestion, transformation and integration pipelines, ensuring data is migrated accurately, efficiently and with minimal disruption to business operations.
- Work across the full data migration lifecycle, from initial discovery and source-system assessment through to data profiling, mapping, extraction, transformation, loading, validation, reconciliation, testing, deployment and post-migration support.
- Develop source-to-target mappings and transformation logic, identifying data quality issues and implementing appropriate cleansing, standardisation and validation processes.
- Design robust reconciliation and quality controls to ensure migrated data is complete, accurate and fit for purpose, while investigating and resolving discrepancies and migration issues where required.
- Contribute to wider data platform modernisation initiatives, including migrations between databases, data warehouses, cloud platforms and other data technologies.
- Work within a modern engineering environment using established software engineering practices, including version control, automated testing, CI/CD, release management and production support.
- Produce clear technical documentation covering data flows, source-to-target mappings, transformation logic, migration processes, dependencies, technical designs and operational procedures.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
