Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) - Senior Data Protection Legal Counsel

Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) is recruiting for a permanent Senior Data Protection Legal Counsel to join our Legal & Data Protection team.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Legal and Data Protection Officer, you will play a key role in supporting TMK's data protection and privacy framework, providing expert legal advice on UK GDPR and wider privacy requirements while helping to ensure privacy risks are effectively managed across the business.

Working closely with stakeholders across Underwriting, Claims, Operations, IT, Information Security, HR, Compliance, and Risk, you will provide practical, commercially focused advice on a broad range of data protection matters, including emerging technologies and AI governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing expert legal and regulatory advice on data protection and privacy matters.
  • Leading and managing the Data Protection team.
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of TMK's Data Protection Target Operating Model.
  • Advising on privacy risks associated with new technologies, projects, and AI initiatives.
  • Overseeing compliance with data protection regulations and internal privacy policies.
  • Managing data subject rights requests and supporting regulatory interactions where required.
  • Advising on data sharing arrangements, international transfers, and contractual privacy provisions.
  • Supporting privacy impact assessments and governance committees reviewing technology and AI projects.
  • Overseeing data breach management, incident response, and remediation activities.
  • Preparing reports and updates for senior management, boards, and committees.
  • Delivering training and promoting awareness of data protection responsibilities across the business.
  • Deputising for the Data Protection Officer when required.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or equivalent legal professional with demonstrable post-qualification experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of UK GDPR, PECR, and related privacy legislation.
  • Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business solutions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation.
  • Excellent report writing, presentation, and project management skills.
  • A collaborative, pragmatic, and solutions-focused approach.
  • Data protection qualifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or CIPT would be advantageous.
  • Experience within the insurance market.
  • People management experience is desirable.
