If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further. We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Data Risk Manager.
You will be responsible for leading the oversight, governance and management of data risk across Global Private Banking and Wealth and Premier, ensuring that the causes and consequences of data risk are understood, assessed, governed and mitigated through effective controls and robust risk management practices.
You will act as a key first line partner to ensure that data-related risks are identified early, escalated appropriately, evidenced in line with policy and regulatory expectations, and managed to the lowest sustainable residual risk level. You will also provide leadership on risk and control decisioning, governance packs, audit and regulatory responses, exception management and change-related control impact assessments for operational delivery.
In this role you will:
- Lead data risk identification and assessment by assessing risks arising from data quality, lineage, privacy, misuse, inaccurate reporting, weak governance or ineffective controls; define inherent and residual risk positions and recommend appropriate treatment actions
- Own and oversee the data risk and control framework by defining control objectives, minimum control requirements, evidence standards and risk-to-control mappings, ensuring alignment to HSBC policy, standards and non-financial risk frameworks
- Provide oversight of control monitoring arrangements by challenging whether KRIs, KPIs and other monitoring mechanisms are sufficient, complete and fit for purpose, and by reviewing breaches, trends and emerging themes requiring escalation or remediation
- Lead risk and control governance and escalation forums for material data risk topics, including KRI breaches, control failures, assurance findings, incidents and remediation actions; maintain decision logs, action tracking and escalation records
- Support and oversee control testing and assurance outcomes by reviewing testing plans, findings and thematic issues from CMA, periodic testing or other assurance activity, and ensuring actions are tracked through to closure.
- Produce and/or lead risk and control reporting and governance packs using Helios / NFR and related management information, highlighting material themes, overdue actions, control weaknesses, breaches and emerging risks for senior governance forums

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
