Senior Data Scientist

Manchester or Haywards Heath (1 day per month) | Up to £52,000 + Bonus

Are you a commercially minded Data Scientist who enjoys solving complex business problems and taking ownership of projects from concept to delivery? This Senior Data Scientist opportunity offers the chance to work on high-impact pricing initiatives, develop advanced modelling solutions, and mentor junior team members, all within a business that actively invests in learning, development, and career progression.

The Role

As a Senior Data Scientist in the Pricing team, you will:

  • Lead Data Science projects that support pricing strategy and commercial decision-making.
  • Build and enhance machine learning and statistical models using complex datasets.
  • Work on a mix of strategic initiatives and ad hoc analytical challenges.
  • Tackle ambiguous data problems and identify practical, evidence-based solutions.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to understand requirements and communicate insights.
  • Mentor and support junior Data Scientists within the team.
  • Collaborate with MLOps teams to ensure solutions are successfully productionised.
  • Contribute to research and experimentation that drives innovation within the pricing function.

Your Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial Data Science experience within insurance, financial services, or another highly regulated environment.
  • Advanced Python skills for modelling and analytical development.
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning techniques, including XGBoost and statistical modelling.
  • A track record of independently delivering Data Science projects from problem definition through to implementation.
  • Strong logical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with stakeholders and translating business challenges into analytical solutions.
  • Previous experience mentoring or supporting less experienced team members.
  • Exposure to Databricks and PySpark would be beneficial.
