Map of Ag is a technology company focused on data science and insights in the agriculture sector. From our office in Penrith, we provide services across all levels of the agrifood supply chain: suppliers, farms, agrifood processors, retailers, and industry professionals. Our analytics support sustainability and animal welfare initiatives across the UK, with international expansion currently underway.

Job Opportunity

We are recruiting an experienced Senior Data Scientist to join our data analytics team. You will lead complex data initiatives and play a key role in shaping our analytical capabilities, leading project delivery, mentoring other data scientists, and making sure our data solutions are industry-leading, robust, scalable, and impactful.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of analytical models and processes across key projects.
  • Direct the technical aspects of your projects, including selection of tools, implementation methodology, and processes, to ensure successful delivery.
  • Guide other members of the analytics team through code reviews, technical direction, and support, acting as their point of contact for technical questions.
  • Efficiently process and mine large datasets from a range of sources using intelligent criteria and mapping rules.
  • Manipulate data and build and maintain models that add value and generate key performance indicators.
  • Work closely with Product and Client Services to align analytics outputs with business needs.
  • Ensure clear documentation and effective communication of findings and recommendations.

  • 4+ years' experience in a data science or applied analytics role, with clearly demonstrated progression in responsibilities.
  • Experience solving domain-specific problems, preferably in agriculture or sustainability.
  • Ability to work effectively within an agile team environment, with evidence of excellent organizational, documentation, and project management skills.
  • Strong Python and MS Excel capabilities.
  • Knowledge of JavaScript, R, SQL, VBA, git, machine learning, or optimization algorithms preferred but not essential.
  • Experience developing technical solutions with AI harnesses such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.
  • Ability to utilize statistical and data analysis methodologies to extract hidden insights from large, complex datasets, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Mechanistic or empirical modelling experience is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of colleagues and stakeholders, including account managers and software developers.
  • STEM degree or equivalent professional experience required.
