Must-Have Skills

  • Extensive hands-on Sybase ASE and Sybase IQ database administration on Linux/Unix.
  • Installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, housekeeping, reorgs, DBCC checks, statistics, index and space management.
  • Strong performance tuning, query optimization and capacity planning experience.
  • Hands-on backup, recovery and restore strategies using dump/load, Backup Server or replication.
  • Sybase Replication Server expertise, including outplace migrations, Warm Standby, MSA, failover clustering, high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Proven large-scale infrastructure/data-centre migration, upgrade or modernization delivery in highly available banking/financial services environments.
  • Experience migrating Sybase databases across on-premises, cloud and cross-platform environments, plus database decommissioning.
  • Administration of terabyte-scale Sybase IQ data warehouses and bulk loading using BCP, IQ load utilities or ETL tools.
  • Strong Sybase security: users/roles, privileges, encryption and auditing.
  • Automation using Shell, Perl or Python scripting.
  • Production support experience, including troubleshooting, collaboration with application/infrastructure teams and on-call rotation.
