The Role
You’ll be the first dedicated DBA in a business with a large, varied database estate.
Right now, different teams look after different parts of the database environment. The Linux team handles the platform, developers manage schema and usage, and operational teams rely on the data every day. What’s missing is one person who can look across the full estate and bring proper database expertise.
That’s where you come in.
- You’ll take ownership of how databases are administered, monitored, reviewed and improved.
- You’ll help the business understand what’s working, what needs tightening up, and where better configuration, structure or use of database features could improve performance.

This isn’t a role where you’ll inherit a mature DBA function and follow established playbooks. You’ll have the chance to shape those playbooks yourself.
You’ll work across relational and time-series databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL and QuestDB. QuestDB experience would be ideal, but broader time-series database experience is the important part. If you’ve worked with systems such as TimescaleDB, InfluxDB, ClickHouse, Kdb+ or similar high-volume data platforms, that background could transfer well.
You’ll sit within a Linux infrastructure team, working closely with engineering and operations. The role is hands-on, senior, and technical, but it is not a people management role.
What makes you a great fit:
- You’ve worked as a DBA, Production DBA, Database Reliability Engineer, or in a database-heavy infrastructure role.
- You have strong experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL, including performance tuning, indexing, replication, access management, backup and restore.
- You’re comfortable working in Linux environments and supporting production systems where reliability matters.
- You have experience with time-series databases, high-volume data platforms, market data, monitoring data, or other performance-sensitive database workloads.
- You can look at how a database estate is currently set up and explain what should change, why it matters, and how to implement it with the relevant teams.
- You’re senior enough to operate with autonomy, but collaborative enough to work well with developers, Linux engineers and operations teams.

Nice to have:
- QuestDB experience.
- Experience with Grafana, Redis, Elasticsearch or Dolt.
- Experience in financial services, trading, market data, payments or another regulated environment.
- Exposure to change control, audit requirements, incident management or high-availability systems.
