Job Description
Anticipated Contract End Date/Length: December 31, 2026
Work setup: Hybrid (3 days per week in office)
Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for a Senior Database Engineer to provide hands-on database administration and engineering support within an enterprise environment. The role will focus on supporting high-volume transactional systems, database performance, availability, monitoring, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery across major relational database platforms.
What you will do:
- Administer and support enterprise database environments across Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or other major RDBMS platforms.
- Support high-volume transactional database systems within complex enterprise environments.
- Implement and maintain high availability and disaster recovery technologies, including RAC, AlwaysOn, replication, and clustering.
- Perform SQL development and database performance tuning to optimize system performance.
- Monitor database environments using tools such as OEM, Dynatrace, Splunk, and Prometheus.
- Support databases running in Linux and Unix environments.
- Implement and maintain backup and recovery strategies and tools.
- Support Payments, Liquidity, or Core Banking systems where applicable.
- Contribute to cloud database initiatives across GCP, AWS, or Azure environments.
- Develop scripting and automation solutions using Python, Shell, Ansible, or Terraform.
- Apply DevOps practices and support CI/CD pipelines.
- Implement data security practices and support regulatory requirements within banking environments.
- Troubleshoot database issues and provide technical solutions to maintain system reliability and availability.

Qualifications
- Bring 10+ years of hands-on DBA experience, ideally within enterprise environments.
- Possess strong expertise in at least one major RDBMS, such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
- Bring experience supporting high-volume transactional systems, ideally within payments, banking, or financial services.
- Possess knowledge of HA/DR technologies, including RAC, AlwaysOn, replication, and clustering.
- Demonstrate strong SQL and database performance tuning skills.
- Bring experience with database monitoring tools such as OEM, Dynatrace, Splunk, or Prometheus.
- Possess familiarity with Linux and Unix environments.
- Bring a strong understanding of backup and recovery strategies and tools.
- Possess experience with Payments, Liquidity, or Core Banking systems as a preferred qualification.
- Bring exposure to cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure and cloud-native databases.
- Possess scripting and automation skills using Python, Shell, Ansible, or Terraform.
- Bring an understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Possess knowledge of data security and regulatory requirements within banking, including FCA and PRA requirements.
