Purpose of the Role

To provide independent and balanced advice and counsel to senior stakeholders through problem identification, solving, and decision-making practices.

Accountabilities

  • Provision of strategic advice to Group Executives to support the decision-making process of business challenges and opportunities.
  • Development and implementation of strategic advisory incentives to grow and optimise the bank’s operations, through market research and analysis.
  • Collaboration with various stakeholder groups to identify the appropriate strategic direction type to meet the needs of Barclays clients and investors.
  • Development of financial models to support strategic recommendations and transactions through financial data analysis, financial projects, and considering the financial impact of transactions.
  • Management of transactions, negotiations, transaction structure development, and post-transaction integration.
  • Collaboration with internal stakeholders to maintain client relationships, and develop new relationships to identify opportunities.
  • Identification of industry trends, maintain peer benchmarking, and developments related to strategic advisory services by attending conferences, participating in training, and conducting market research.

  • Advise and influence decision-making, contribute to policy development, and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/business divisions.
  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well-developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function. Set objectives and coach employees in pursuit of those objectives, appraisal of performance relative to objectives, and determination of reward outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a clear set of leadership behaviours to create an environment for colleagues to thrive and deliver to a consistently excellent standard. The four LEAD behaviours are:

  • Lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. Identify new directions for assignments and/or projects, identifying a combination of cross-functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business-aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practices (in other areas, teams, companies, etc.) to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

Where you'll help solve complex business challenges and improve customer and business outcomes through insight-led decision-making. You will develop decision products, generate actionable insights, and provide clear recommendations that support strategic and operational decisions across the business.

Success in this role requires more than technical analytics capability. We are looking for individuals who can frame complex business problems, identify the most important insights, evaluate alternative solutions, and make clear recommendations supported by evidence. Candidates should be comfortable working with ambiguity, applying structured thinking, and exercising sound commercial judgment.

Requirements

  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to structure ambiguous business challenges.
  • Proven experience in analytics, decision science, strategy, consulting, or research roles.
  • Deep commercial awareness and experience balancing customer, business, and operational outcomes.
  • Ability to translate complex business problems into clear analytical approaches and recommendations.
  • Experience identifying key drivers of business performance and turning data into actionable insight.
  • Effective stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience using evidence and insight to influence decision-making and challenge existing assumptions.
  • Ability to present complex findings and recommendations to non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience leading analytical activities end-to-end, from problem definition and stakeholder alignment through to implementation, benefit realisation, and impact measurement.

Highly Valued Skills

  • Experience at a large Consulting firm (preferably Analytics, Strategy, or Customer Consulting).
  • Experience in financial services or other customer-focused industries.
  • Demonstrated experience solving customer, commercial, or strategic business problems.
  • Degree in a quantitative or business-related field (Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Business, Computer Science, etc.).
  • Knowledge of customer analytics, proposition development, or decisioning methodologies.
  • Understanding of experimentation, measurement, and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments and adapting analytical approaches to evolving business priorities.
  • Knowledge of programming languages commonly used in analytics (Python, R, SQL).
  • Experience working with cloud-based analytics platforms and modern data ecosystems (e.g., Databricks).
  • Knowledge of machine learning and AI applications.

Location

This role can be based in either London, Northampton, or Glasgow.
