Renishaw is a global leader in the design and development of inspection probe technology and metrology systems. Due to organisational growth, we are recruiting a Senior Design / Development Engineer to join the Encoder Products Division (EPD) at our HQ in Wotton-under-Edge.
Role Description
As a Senior Design / Development Engineer at Renishaw, you'll be involved in the engineering of miniaturised optical and electro-mechanical products, including optical encoder measurement systems used in automated motion control systems to deliver sub-micron position feedback.
You'll be given the chance to impart your knowledge and be part of a diverse team of engineers supporting and improving existing products, encouraged to interface with new product and manufacturing teams across the business.
Our products and services are used in applications as diverse as the automotive and aerospace industries to military and consumer electronics. We operate in an environment that promotes autonomy and creativity with people who can deliver quality within set timelines.
Responsibilities
- Evolving and maintaining product system designs capable of measuring to sub-micrometre resolution which include precision optical, electronic and mechanical technology.
- Developing prototype designs to meet new customer requirements or improve product performance.
- Design of experiments and interpreting results from large sets of production data.
- Investigating product performance issues, providing solutions to a timescale.
- Working closely with manufacturing engineers to support and improve manufacture and assembly systems and processes.

Key Requirements
- A degree in an engineering subject or physics or equivalent.
- Possess problem solving skills and have a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplined team.
- Practical and theoretical approach to projects.
- Flexibility in changing project requirements.
- Demonstrable interest / background in system design and engineering.
- A valid UK driving license.
Desirable Requirements
- Familiarity with design and analysis tools such as CAD, MATLAB, LabVIEW, PowerBI, Minitab.
- Knowledge or experience in design, development or manufacture of high volume miniaturised optical-electronic systems and assemblies.
We are ultimately looking to recruit a passionate individual with an interest in developing a career as a system-focused design and development engineer. You’ll be immersed in engineering design and practical activities relating to the development of optical and electro-mechanical products. Skills will be tested, and your personal development will be encouraged.
