Job Description
Location: Astec Industries Europe Limited, 3 Bankmore Way East

In 2024 another £5m investment in factory expansion was completed at our Doogary site to increase our manufacturing footprint. This not only allows us to keep up with global demand, it also enables us to grow our crushing and screening business in Europe. We are now one of Omagh's largest private employers with over 200 team members and we need to continue to grow our team to support our growth.
About The Role
We are now looking to fulfil the role of a Senior Design Engineer – Washing
Under general supervision of the Yankton engineering team, the senior Design Engineer is responsible for design efforts from inception through production.
This position will focus on Static and modular Plants. Core components brought together in compliant systems, these are primarily electric powered with some hydraulic systems. These plants incorporate, on board power systems, hydraulics, electrical controls and mechanical systems including drives, crushers, feeders, screens and conveyors.
The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other engineers, cross-functional teams not limited to sales, manufacturing, purchasing, and service. They will develop conceptual and final design solutions, manage and coordinate project activities, support existing product offerings, and perform testing or analysis of new and existing products to further Astec’s product line development goals.
The preferred site location is Omagh, Northern Ireland.

Required Criteria
- Follow and actively support all company policies and procedures, to include a primary emphasis on safe operations.
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in equipment design and manufacturing (mechanical, structural, hydraulic and electrical/control system design).
- Ability to take responsibility for the completion of projects - achieving due dates and pre-defined requirements defined by management while working independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to support designs through procurement, build and test.
- Innovative and able to come up with new design concepts and solutions to problems encountered during the design process.
- Proficient with personal computing, Microsoft Office Suite, 3-D CAD software applications (SolidWorks preferred) and ERP systems.
- Ability to develop and/or guide necessary computations such as load development, stress analysis, performance measurement, hydraulic circuit analysis, costing, etc. and interpret the results as necessary.
- Understanding/experience with the engineering design process and new product development.
- Ability to read, interpret and create engineering drawings and standards.
- Understanding of materials, materials sciences and material properties as they relate to engineering decisions and materials selection.
- Ability to make a financial and technical case for engineering design decisions.
- Understanding of manufacturing practices including cutting, forming and welding of metals.
- Maintain positive, cooperative working relationships by working, interacting, and communicating with various personalities, getting along with customers, vendors, co-workers and management, working both individually and as part of a team.
- Good organization and time-management skills.
Desired Criteria
- Experience in the design of complete wash plants from concept through to production.
- Experience in the use of FEA.
